Swiss ruling, a precedent-setting victory for Right of Self-Determination oriented freedom fighters

[TamilNet, Friday, 15 June 2018, 21:07 GMT]
Zurich-based legal experts, who represented the former LTTE-associated activists in Switzerland involved in the fundraising to the struggle of Eezham Tamil independence, have praised the recent verdict in the Swiss Federal Criminal Court as a precedent-setting victory. The decision is a victory for the Right of Self-determination oriented national liberation armed struggles that get wrongly classified as terrorism due to international politics, Marcel Bosonnet, one of the legal experts who defended the Tamil activists told TamilNet in an interview on Friday. The judges felt that there were not enough concrete proofs to consider the LTTE as a criminal organisation. This ruling is outstanding and is much better-placed than the EU ruling as it challenges the international politics based terrorism classification with a principled legal question, Tamil legal activists in Switzerland said.

Colombo schemes Sinhala military-led industrialisation of KKS exploiting geopolitics

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 13 June 2018, 22:37 GMT]
The occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka was re-constructing the KKS Harbour with the assistance from New Delhi after 2009. The Indian Central Government has been claiming that assistance was meant for the development of the war-affected North. But, the native people or their Provincial Council, which was introduced following the Indo-Lanka Accord, have no say or access to KKS Harbour, Cement Factory and the people are not resettled. The entire area is still a Sinhala Military Zone. Now, plans are afoot to set up an IT industry through deploying occupying Sinhala military personnel with foreign assistance. In the meantime, SL military commander in Jaffna is also aiming to put up an export-oriented garments industry in KKS and is consulting with major garments industrial owners in the South.

Mannaar mass grave could be from early 1990s, shocking details emerge

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 12 June 2018, 19:49 GMT]
Field archaeologists from the South, deployed to excavate the alleged site of mass graves in the former SL military held high-security zone in Mannaar island, are trying to project the massacre site as an ancient burial site, families of enforced disappeared Tamils, who witnessed their attitude on Tuesday told TamilNet. The excavators have found two old rings, which they claim as non-customary to contemporary times. However, on the 4th day of excavations, a Maliban biscuit packaging material was discovered very close to a human skeleton giving an indication when the killings could have occurred. Careful inspection of the rotten package has established the fact that it dates from a stock sold between the years of 1989 and 1990, legal sources told TamilNet.

Another mass grave located in Mannaar at former SL military zone

[TamilNet, Friday, 01 June 2018, 17:06 GMT]
The existence of another mass grave has been confirmed after the discovery of human skeletal remains from sands dug from an area previously used as the ‘High-Security Zone’ of the occupying Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka in mainland Mannaar. The latest discovery is from the island of Mannaar where the building of SL state-owned department store network, known as Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE), was situated. The building has been dismantled to put up a new five storey building for the CWE Sathosa. The occupying SL military is still stationed 50 feets close to the site.

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 30 May 2018, 16:06 GMT]
Fisheries traders from South have deployed more than one thousand sea cucumber poachers along the coast of Vadamaraadchi East with the backing of the occupying Sinhala Navy of genocidal Sri Lanka and the SL Ministry of Fisheries during the last two weeks. The native Tamil fishers have risen against the exploitation as it directly affects their livelihood and the fishing ecosystem. The Tamil fishermen staged a protest on Sunday. Disillusioned sections of Saiva activists transform into Hindutva extremists in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Saturday, 26 May 2018, 21:02 GMT]
Alarming hate-speech evidence has emerged in Jaffna on Thursday causing concerns among the Tamil national grassroots circles that a new brand of North Indian Hindutva extremism is induced into the Tamil society challenging the secular Tamil nationalism at one of its bedrocks. The latest controversy and a hate speech highlighted in Tamil language media come as a reaction to the insignificant issue of 33 cows getting purchased for meat by a slaughterhouse in Chaavakachcheari following the due civic procedures in Jaffna. The Hindutva-influenced sections were staging a protest against what they termed as Islamic slaughter of cows regarded as sacred animals by Buddhists and Hindus.

Educational Mu'l'livaaykkaal targets Vavuniyaa campus of Jaffna University

[TamilNet, Thursday, 17 May 2018, 19:10 GMT]
The occupying unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka is scheming to separate the campus of Vavuniyaa, which is currently under the administration of Jaffna University through a so-called ‘upgrading’ to full-fledged university status in the near future. At the same time, a planned move is also underway to use the ethnic sentiments of the Sinhala students to speed up the process of Sinhalicisaton of the administration of the campus. The sinister move is said to be the motive behind the latest controversy over a handful of students from the South attempting to forcefully erect a Buddha temple within the premises of Vavuniyaa campus. In the meantime, the diplomatic missions based in Colombo are actively involved in a systematic ‘pacification’ programme targeting Tamil academics and students to indirectly abet the Sinhalicisation of Tamil educational institutions.

Indian, U.S. Establishments compete to influence modus operandi of Mu'l'livaaykkaal Remembrance

[TamilNet, Thursday, 10 May 2018, 13:45 GMT]
The grassroots sentiment of Eezham Tamils, which originates from the opposition to ITAK politicians such as R. Sampanthan addressing Mu'l'livaaykkaal Remembrance, is being tactically deployed by an ITAK circle closely working with the Western Establishment against NPC Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran. At the same time, a group of personalities operating from the overseas, allegedly trapped into the sphere of the Indian Intelligence, is also trying to influence the discourse countering the ITAK circle, an informed political source in Jaffna told TamilNet on Thursday. Commenting, Tamil political observers in Jaffna said both the Indian and the Western Establishments want Eezham Tamils to mark Mu'l'livaaykkaal Remembrance as a mourning ritual akin to that of 2004 Tsunami victims, bereft of any struggle-centric message.
