Pt.Pedro UC chairman killed

Mr.Vadivelu Vijeyaratnam, Chairman of the Point Pedro Urban Council in the Jaffna District was shot dead by unidentified gunmen around 7.30 p.m. this evening.

Mr.Vijeyaratnam, alias Sellakili master, 47, was representing the Peoples Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam ( PLOTE).

Mudali Pakeerathan,25, watcher of the Point Pedro Urban Council (UC) was also killed in the incident the sources said.

Mr.Wijeyaratnam drove Pakeerathan in his motor bicycle to drop him off at the Urban Council office when he was shot at by unidentified gunmen. Mr.Wijayaratnam's residence is at Oodakarai, about 200 metres from the UC office. Both of them died on the spot the sources said.

The body of Vijeratnam was handed over to Manthikai hospital in Point Pedro. Seven gunshot injuries were found on his body, the sources said.
