Danish humanitarian local staffer abducted in Jaffna

A local staffer at the Danish Humanitarian Demining Organization in Jaffna was abducted Monday morning on his way to work in Jaffna, the Danish NGO officials complained to the Government Agent, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission and Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission in Jaffna Tuesday. Unidentified men waylaid and abducted the staffer riding motor cycle, in broad day light at Kuppi'laan, an area near Sri Lanka Army High Security Zone in the presence of other onlookers, sources in Jaffna said.

The abducted staffer, Sivarasa Vimalarasa, 20, is from Kuppi'laan in Mayilangkaadu in Valikaamam.

Two demining staffers working for the Danish Humanitarian Organization were abducted in Point Pedro town area, last year.

Danish Humanitarian Demining organization is funded by the Danish government.

Halo Trust and the Danish Humanitarian Organization are the only two demining agencies operating in Jaffna peninsula presently.

More than 12 Halo Trust staff in Jaffna were either had been abducted of killed in the past.
