Another abducted student released in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Saturday, 13 January 2007, 00:22 GMT]
Former student of Jaffna Hindu College, Kanthiyalahan Srisanath, 21, abducted from his home at Navalar Road in Jaffna on Sunday, allegedly by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and collaborating paramilitaries, was released by his captors Friday early morning in front of his house, sources from Jaffna said.

The abductors of Srisanath brought him blind folded in a white Van during the curfew hours Friday early morning and left him in front of his house at Navalar road.

Srisanath was abducted on Palaly road on his way, to his friend's house in Urumpirai, from his home.

Meanwhile, Jaffna University Student Union (JUSU) had earlier expressed its gratitude to the captors of Arunakirinathan Niruparaj, the third year science student at the Jaffna campus who was released by his captors Wednesday early morning 2:00 a.m in front of his residence.

Niruparaj was the first to be released of the many abducted students in the Jaffna peninsula since August 2006.

JUSU had also entreated the abductors concerned to similarly release all the students still held captive and help Jaffna University activities to continue in a safe environment.

Jaffna University Student Union (JUSU) in its statement to media Tuesday had urgently requested authorities concerned to ensure the safety of the students and to release all abducted students. The JUSU had also warned that it would agitate and boycott schools from Wednesday until its requests are fulfilled.
